Kukkiwon Grading - Auckland, New Zealand, November 2009
Over the weekend of November 21st - 22nd, 2009, 10 Hwa Rang Taekwondo instructors travelled to Auckland, New Zealand to undertake a Kukkiwon Dan Promotion Examination.
All instructors attended a Poomsae seminar, which was conducted all day Saturday and Sunday morning. The seminar was instructed by Kukkiwon Grandmaster Kang and attended by about 50 senior Blackbelts from the Oceania Region. It was an intensive day and a half of practicing techniques and drills from every poomsae from Taegeuk Il Jang all the way up to Sipjin (and Jitae for those participants attempting the 6th Dan examination). It was very interesting to see the Kukkiwon's evolution of techniques and the methods in which they were taught. All members picked up some good tips, which no doubt they will incorporate back into their classes.
A lunch break was scheduled at the conclusion of the seminar on Sunday, but most participants gave up most of their break to get some final practice in and to polish their poomsae. Even though all participants were senior Blackbelts, everyone was a little nervous about the grading. The grading was examined by a panel of Kukkiwon Masters and Officials from Korea and participated by 24 participants from the Oceania Region and watched by others who had either participated in the seminar prior to the grading or who came to offer their support. There were mixed reactions amongst Hwarangdo members after the grading but Master Kim was very happy with our performances.
The Kukkiwon Grading for the Oceania Region was a very successful event for The Australian Hwa Rang Taekwondo Academy.
